    HIIT researcher Giulio Iacucci defended succesfully his doctoral thesis Interaction as Performance: Cases of Configuring Physical Interfaces in Mixed Media in the public dissertation event at the University of Oulu. Professor Kari Kuutti acted as the custos of the event.

    HIIT joined the PlanetLab Consortium, a collection of academic, industrial, and government institutions cooperating to support and enhance the PlanetLab overlay network designed to allow researchers to develop and test powerful new types of software that are not confined to a single computer but run on many computers at once, treating the global network as one large, widely distributed computer. The PlanetLab Consortium is managed by Princeton University, the University of California at Berkeley, and the University of Washington.

    The National Technology Agency TEKES awarded first-year funding for the project InfraHIP: Infrastructure for HIP. The project aims to study the applications related aspects of the Host Identity Protocol (HIP), including APIs, rendezvous service, operating system security, multiple end-points within a single host, process migration, and issues related to enterprise-level solutions. The project is led by Professor Martti Mäntylä with Professor Antti Ylä-Jääski from the TML laboratory at TKK. Dr.

    The Academy of Finland awarded funding for the project Cognitively inspired visual interfaces for representing multidimensional information (CIVI). The project is led by Professor Petri Myllymäki. It will be executed in co-operation with Docent Ilpo Kojo from the Center for Knowledge and Innovation Research (CKIR) at the Helsinki School of Economics, who received a matching grant.

    The Academy of Finland awarded funding for the project Urban Space and Experience Design (USED) - participatory methods for new media art & research. The project is an art-research interaction project which converges methods and approaches of new media art, interface design and urban studies. The aim is to develop a practice informed by an understanding of the experiential and social qualities of public spaces as they are being reconfigured by wireless and pervasive technologies.

  • 28.10.2004: HIIT and m-cult sign co-operation MOU

    The centre for new media culture m-cult moved to share the HTC 5th floor space with HIIT. A small seminar was arranged. On the same date, HIIT and m-cult signed a memorandum of understanding aiming at linking new media culture and ICT research to facilitate new social innovations for advancing information society. To achieve this, m-cult and HIIT will share their multi-disciplinary networks and align their research agendas.
