Mikael Wahlström, Social Psychologist
Was a researcher of the Helsinki Institute for Information Technology HIIT until 31/12/2011.
Doctoral student of Social Psychology in the University of Helsinki.
VTM (MSocSci) from University of Helsinki and Master de Psychologie from research orientated one-year master’s program organized by Paris V and EHESS.
My doctoral dissertation explores how changes in communication technologies result as changes in representation and perception formation. It features historical reflection, being a journey from tales and oral traditions of Dan Sperber, through mass communication and social representations of Serge Moscovici, to network-society and mass self-communication of Manuel Castells and beyond. Some recent developments are explored with case-studies and hence it also features a collection of journal articles on the use of communication technologies. Changed communication structures entail implications for the theory of social representations. The thesis has been submitted for review.
