AI Revolution: Implications for Business and Society seminar

Join us at the Aalto seminar "The AI Revolution" in Otaniemi. Professor Alex Stubb will open the discussion on AI, geopolitics, and societal changes. Merja Ylä-Anttila, CEO of Yle, will address AI's role in creative industries, while Kaisa Salakka from Wolt will discuss how AI shapes next-generation products. Tero Ojanperä will share insights from his book “AI Revolution – Tekoälyn vallankumous”. Additionally, Kimmo Alkio of Tietoevry will share the CEO perspective and a leading researcher, professor Samuel Kaski reflects about the present and future of AI.

Speakers

Alexander Stubb
Professor Alexander Stubb is the Director and full time professor at the School of Transnational Governance, European University Institute as of 1 May 2020. He has served as Prime Minister, Finance Minister, Foreign Minister, Trade and Europe Minister of Finland (2008-2016). He was a Member of the European Parliament from 2004 to 2008 and national parliament (2011-2017). He was the Chairman of the Finnish National Coalition Party (Kokoomus) from 2014 to 2016 and Vice President of the European Investment Bank (EIB) from 2017 to 2020. Stubb’s background is in academia, civil service and politics. He holds a Ph.D. in international relations from the London School of Economics, a Master’s degree in EU administration from the College of Europe in Bruges, and a B.A. in political science from Furman University in South Carolina. He also studied French language, culture and civilisation at the Sorbonne in Paris.

Merja Ylä-Anttila
CEO of Yleisradio and Member of the Management Group since 2018.

Kimmo Alkio 
Kimmo Alkio is the President and CEO of Tietoevry, a leading technology company with a strong Nordic heritage and global capabilities with 24,000 experts developing digital futures and serving thousands of customers in more than 90 countries. Before joining the company in 2011, Alkio served as President and CEO of F-Secure Corporation and Vice President of Nokia Networks Corporation. Prior to that he has held various management positions at F-Secure Corporation, Digital Equipment Corporation and Compaq Computer. Kimmo Alkio holds BBA from Texas A&M University, USA and Executive MBA, Helsinki University of Technology, Finland.

Tero Ojanperä
Dr. Tero Ojanperä is a world-renowned technology business leader. The co-founder of Silo AI, one of Europe's largest private AI labs. He is also a Professor of Practice, Aalto University. Tero is former CTO and chief strategy officer of Nokia and served in the executive board of Nokia. Currently, Tero serves on boards of several non-listed and listed companies. He is a member of the International Selection Committee of the Millennium Technology Prize and has been nominated Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum.

Kaisa Salakka 
VP, Product @Wolt | Board professional | ex-Unity
Kaisa Salakka has 15+ years of international leadership experience in digital platforms, SaaS and new product innovation with deep understanding of retail, gaming, mobile and web marketing, media and telecom. She has been leading product-, engineering- , data science- and design organizations in high growth companies scaling from startup to enterprise size in global markets. In addition to product leadership roles, she influences in board work and as an advisor in startup and gaming sectors.

Samuel Kaski
Samuel Kaski is a professor of Computer Science at Aalto University and professor of AI in the University of Manchester. He leads the Finnish Center for Artificial Intelligence FCAI, ELLIS Unit Helsinki and the ELISE EU Network of AI Excellence Centres. He received the Turing AI World-Leading Researcher Fellowship in 2021. His field is probabilistic machine learning, with applications in new kinds of collaborative AI-assistants able to work well with humans in modelling, design and decision tasks.  Application domains include computational biology and medicine, brain signal analysis, information retrieval and user modelling.
