Public defence announcement:

This thesis studied deep learning models in natural language processing for healthcare applications. This study aims to investigate the application of deep learning and language technology for the development of intelligent medical information systems. This thesis is relevant to natural language processing applications and health informatics. This thesis explored effective text encoding for clinical text, proposed new deep learning models, and improved the predictive performance of several healthcare tasks. After rigorous human evaluation, the proposed models can be applied to medical information systems. The results in this thesis validated the applicability of deep learning-based natural language processing to healthcare tasks on public benchmarks and answered serval important research questions.
