Dr Piyush Kumar Garg received his master’s degree in 2018 from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT-ISM), Dhanbad, India, and his PhD in computer science and engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Patna, India, in 2025. His doctoral research was conducted under the supervision of Professor Sourav Kumar Dandapat. After graduating, he worked as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Bennett University, India. In May 2026, he joined the research group lead by Prof. Sasu Tarkoma in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Helsinki as a Postdoctoral researcher. Dr Piyush Kumar Garg currently works as a Postdoctoral fellow within the Helsinki Institute for Information Technology (HIIT).
Dr Piyush Kumar Garg’s research focuses on the intersection of artificial intelligence and healthcare, with specific expertise in medical LLMs, hallucination detection and mitigation, computational social science and social network analysis. He has published 9 peer-reviewed journal articles. He publishes papers in top venues, such as IEEE Transactions on Computational Social Systems, ACM Transactions on the Web, Knowledge-Based Systems, and Computer Speech & Language.
