27.6.2001: STAMI receives TEKES funding
TEKES awarded funding for the project STAMI of the Digital Economy programme. The project had actually been in operation since March 1, 2001. It studies interaction of digital economy issues with computer security technology, in particular information validity management and personal privacy. Its partners are Nokia, Ericsson, Elisa Communications and Alma Media.
9.-11.6.2001: First UCB-HIIT Summer School held
The first UCB-HIIT Summer School on Telecommunications Software Architectures was run in Otaniemi. Speakers included Prof. Randy Katz from University of California at Berkeley, Prof. Kimmo Raatikainen from UH and Prof. Heikki Mannila of HUT. The first part of the Summer School was run at UC Berkeley on May 29 and 30. Its speakers included Dr.
8.6.2001: Prof. Heikki Mannila nominated as Director of BRU
The Board of HIIT nominated Prof. Heikki Mannila of HUT as the Research Director of HIIT's Basic Research Unit from 1.12.2001 until 31.12.2005.
1.6.2001: Between project launches
The project Between of the Fuego programme was launched. It replaces the existing UbiServices project, and includes further partners Elisa Communications and First Hop in addition to Nokia, Sonera, and Alma Media.
